Courses

The Project Maths Development Team, in conjunction with the NCTE, is running a series of workshops to support the integration of ICT into the teaching of mathematics. These introductory modules focus on the use of software to teach geometry, trigonometry and statistics. They will also include a short introduction to using a laptop with a data projector.

Course Duration:
This course consists of 5 modules. Each module has been designed to be of 2.5 hours in duration.

Target Audience:
These modules are aimed at Post Primary teachers of Mathematics who are interested in integrating ICT within their classroom.

Course Content/Topics:
  • Workshop 1:
    GeoGebra for Synthetic Geometry
    This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of theorems, constructions and transformation geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
  • Workshop 2:
    GeoGebra for Co-ordinate Geometry
    This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of co-ordinate geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
  • Workshop 3:
    GeoGebra for Trigonometry plus participants sharing their resources
    This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of trigonometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
  • Workshops 4 & 5:
    Excel for teaching Statistics
    This covers the use of Excel in the teaching of statistics. It will deal with the production of relevant graphs and formulae for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 1.


Pre-requisites:
Participants should be comfortable with basic ICT tasks, such as opening, editing, saving and closing files.
Participants who would like to attend a more introductory course in advance of the above modules should contact their local Education Centre to attend the ‘Introduction to PC’s and File Management’ module.
